Nurturing art for and by the people, where they live and work.

Jill McLennan

Jill McLennan does it all! She draws, paints and builds sets. Her work includes traditional oil paintings on canvas using sketches, direct observation and or photographs. Trained in traditional oil painting techniques, Jill claims drawing and her use of color as her areas of expertise. While expanding her repertoire, she developed her own distinct encaustic painting style, which has allowed her to combine photography, drawing, painting, and object collecting into a new work of art on or in various surfaces.

Jill’s work reflects her fascination with the Bay Area’s natural beauty and industrial landscape and the experiences of her students, friends and neighbors. She often focuses on construction sites to communicate a message about how we as humans transform the environment to fit our needs. Jill strongly believes in the transformative power of art and considers graffiti to be another method humans have developed in order to claim the abandoned urban decay that surrounds us and transform it into something beautiful. Her art shows the persistence of nature to sustain our human society throughout the development of industry and technology.
