The Poetry Projection Project: A WritersCorps Film Event
Entry Deadline: March 1, 2013, 11 p.m. PST
Screening: April 13, 2013 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
The Poetry Projection Project is an annual video contest held by WritersCorps, an award-winning creative writing program for youth.
WritersCorps calls on filmmakers and video artists of all ages to create work based on youth writing. Videos accepted into the event will be screened during National Poetry Month in April 2013 and online at WritersCorps.org. Out of the films accepted into the event, three will be chosen as winners and awarded cash prizes.
WritersCorps will award three $250 cash prizes:
One prize to the best film made by an adult age 23 and over
One prize to the best film made by a young person age 17-22
One prize to the best film made by a young person age 16 and under
Entries will be juried by special guest juror, filmmaker H.P. Mendoza.
In keeping with WritersCorps’ mission of helping youth through creative expression, the Poetry Projection Project engages filmmakers to explore the power of young people’s words and voices.
For the adult category (age 23 and over), videos must include the entire text or audio of one poem by a WritersCorps student, found here: Poetry Projection Project 2013 Poems.
For both youth categories, videos must include the entire text of one of the WritersCorps poems OR any poem written by a youth (age 22 and under), as long as the filmmakers obtain permission to use the poem. If the poet is under 18, permission must be obtained from the poet’s parent/guardian.
All videos must credit the poet.
If the poem is by a WritersCorps student, the video must also credit San Francisco WritersCorps.
