Moccasins & Microphones - February 28
February 20th, 2009 by Admin
826 Valencia, in coordination with the Santa Fe Indian School, Youth Speaks, and WritersCorps presents:
Moccasins & Microphones
Join us for an evening of poetry and spoken word performance featuring unique voices from the Santa Fe Indian School mingling with readings from our very talented Bay Area youth.
Students from the Santa Fe Indian School will perform dressed in full traditional Native regalia. The students at Santa Fe Indian School are part of a growing program that has won a slew of local and regional poetry slams and twice earned an invitation to the International Poetry Slam Festival in Washington D.C., which pits teams of the country’s top young spoken word poets against one another.
These Santa Fe students will be sharing the stage with some of the Bay Area’s most talented high school students who have worked with either 826, Youth Speaks or WritersCorps on their spoken word and poetry.
Representing WritersCorps on the stage will be Annie Yu and Robin Black.
The event is free and promises to be an engaging and enlightening celebration of words and culture.
