Who We Are
Since 1994, the San Francisco WritersCorps, a project of the San Francisco
Arts Commission, has placed writers in community settings to teach creative
writing to youth ages 6-21 from underserved communities. WritersCorps
teachers conduct 8-to-12-month-long creative writing classes in schools,
afterschool programs, detention centers, public housing and community
centers. The classes cover a wide range of literary genres from journal
writing to performance poetry, and the students and class sites represent
the diversity of San Francisco in all its forms.
What You Get To Do
In addition to teaching classes, teachers work collaboratively to:
- Create and support public events such as the WritersCorps Youth Poetry Slam League
