Hot Off the Press

June 14th, 2012 by Admin

This year WritersCorps published a great deal of student work: four anthologies, two comic books, a cookbook, a newspaper, book markers and a pocket-sized booklet! See all of our students’ hard work at the WritersCorps store. We have spooky ghost stories, unusual super heroes, recipes from around the world, and of course, lots of incredible poetry. In collaboration with Aptos Middle School, Downtown High School, Hilltop School, ISA, the Juvenile Justice Center, and Oasis for Girls, WritersCorps brought together professional writers and San Francisco youth to highlight everyone’s best work of the year. Purchase a copy and get into the mind of a San Francisco youth. 2012-site-pubs-2

Words

The thrill of a roller coaster Coming out of your mouth into the world.

Andi Brooker, 13, “Where the Clouds Keep You Hidden” (Aptos Middle School Anthology)

from “How to Steal a Kiss”

Before stealing a kiss, you first need to find the girl that makes you shiver, the girl that makes you feel shy, makes your little chubby cheeks turn red whenever she smiles at you. The one who walks in front of you, leaving behind the smell of exotic flowers mixed with fresh delicious fruits, which forms this amazing yet indescribable scent. As you walk along with her, try to figure out the way her body works. Make your eyes count her movements: 1,2,3,4 steps.

Fernando Vallecillos, 17, “Let Me Be” (International Studies Academy anthology)
