Exhibition Dates: April 20 - June 11, 2005
Location: SFAC Main Gallery

In Passing: a show about death is an exhibit curated by Todd Herman, the winner of the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery 2004 Emerging Curator Award. The award was created by SFACG in order to foster new curatorial concepts and support the further development of San Francisco's vibrant curatorial community. The award was open to all curators and curatorial partnerships residing in the nine Bay Area counties; artists in the proposed exhibitions could range from local to international.

In Passing is a visual and textual voyage through the difficult and enriching business of mourning. Starting from the experience of a recent personal loss Todd Hermann, an artist who lives and works in San Francisco, has gathered the work of a notable group of committed artists. The endeavor has resulted in a societal, cultural and emotional exploration into the loss of dear ones that is an at times meditative, jolting, sad, and revealing look at the solitary yet common experience of death.

We thank the following organizatons for making their lobbies available as satellite galleries for the duration of the show: Casketorium, Chapel of the Avenues, Duggan's Serra Mortuary, Halsted N. Gray - Carew & English Inc., Arthur J. Sullivan & Co., San Francisco Columbarium and Neptune Society of Northern California, Zen Hospice Project.
