I use the stitch as a marker of time, to consider our oblique relationship to the past, present, and future, and ways to forge a relationship with this shifting terrain. I use the stitch as an orientation marker, a way of citing where one has been and where one is going. – AVM
Anna Von Mertens received her MFA from CCAC in 2000. She has been selected as one of the 2003 MATRIX artists at the UC Berkeley Art Museum; her work has recently been shown at Sara Meltzer Gallery in NY, NY, Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, OR and Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco. She has been a resident at both the MacDowell Colony and the Headlands Center for the Arts.
