Passport, 2009
SFAC Passport 2009
Complete stamped book, unique
Edition of 500
$200
In 2009 the SFAC Gallery inaugurated Passport, an annual event that invites the public to stroll through one of San Francisco’s neighborhoods to create their own limited edition art book by collecting “passport stamps” made by local artists.
For Passport, the SFAC Gallery commissioned Bay Area artists; Libby Black, Michelle Blade, Lisa Congdon, Veronica de Jesus, Maria Forde, Colter Jacobson, Sean McFarland, Barry McGee, Maria Porges, Andrew Schoultz, Tara Tucker and Marci Washington—to each create their own version of a passport stamp. Participants purchased a passport booklet, (featuring a cover-design created by artist Tucker Nichols specifically for this project,) and then followed a map to various neighborhood locations where they collected artist-made stamps. Passport 2009 took place in San Francisco’s Mission District, celebrating its longstanding status as the hub of the city’s art community.
If you missed this year's event and was not able to purchase a Passport, the SFAC has made a few completed Passports available to sell. All proceeds from the event directly support SFAC Gallery’s programming, which included support for artist honoraria and exhibition costs.
