Emma Spertus makes fake books and shows them to people.

As part of the Clog Celebration, Artcards editor and artist, Emma Spertus gave a slide presentation of her recent body of work, Renewed: Fake Books which will be a part of an exhibition at The Apartment in Vancouver, Canada. The exhibition, 11 Lights on the Bay on view until 5/26/11, includes work by, David Berezin, Tammy Rae Carland, Ajit Chauhan, Trisha Donnelly, Kota Ezawa, Vincent Fecteau, Colter Jacobsen, Mitzi Pedersen, Will Rogan, Leslie Shows and Emma Spertus.

During her presentation for the Clog, Emma revealed herself to be an expert in the fine art of making fake books. As she explains, some people do buy books to read but most of us buy books to look at them and treat them like objects. Her “books” (air quotes seem appropriate at this point) show a dark sense of humor and points of entry into fantastic stories that have never been written.

After you are finished not reading these fake “books”, check out ArtCards. It is a terrific website with a very clever calendaring system. It is worth a view.

Drawing Night with Jon Schroeder
"Drawing Night" profiles an energetic Oakland subculture of artists that get together, typically of Tuesday evenings, at a rotating location. Our guide is the intrepid Jon Schroeder, artist, DJ, jack-of-all-trades, and all around good guy.

Drawing Night with Jeff Stratford
Following the success of "Drawing Night with Jon Schroeder," we delve again into this weekly art happening, this time with Jeff Stratford. Jeff, like Jon, is an artist and all around guy, he is also a substitute teacher by day and compulsive drawer by night. The drawing night enterprise has never been so close to drawing production.

Shark: Lord of the Seas
The shark in this case is not the carnivorous fish we all know and love, but rather mechanical beast of leisure time. We have here a field guide to over-sized spped boats in transit to their domain, aka your south western reservoir.
