Wholesale is an ongoing project that includes installations, web based work, and mail art from a semi-fictitious company, Art Wholesale: the Conceptual Art Warehouse. The company aims to eliminate the artist from the creative economy. When orders are placed, they are filled and mailed with the consistent branding of Art Wholesale. This exchange between buyer and seller creates a contract between artist and audience to continue the performance. The tongue in cheek nature of the project pokes into the value of originality, consumerism, and blurs the lines of truth and fiction. The marketing tools include fliers and ads that are intentionally cheap, mundane and a caricature of the constant barrage of advertising on a day to day level.

The project extends to several arenas including an installation of the Art Wholesale packing boxes shown earlier this year that “supplied” a gallery with work. Additionally, fliers have been distributed offering patrons a discount code for online orders, and an ad was placed on Craigslist with job opportunities at the warehouse. Art Wholesale is, in effect, a functional business with blurred lines of reality and fiction.
