What advice would your 80-year old self give to the you of today? That's the question artist Susan O'Malley asked more than a hundred people of every age, from every walk of life. She then transformed their responses into vibrant text-based images. This stirring celebration of our collective humanity unveils the wisdom we hold inside ourselves right now.
This heartfelt series has been gathered in Chronicle Books' new book Advice From My 80-Year-Old Self: Real Words of Wisdom from People Ages 7 to 88. Join Chronicle Books and the San Francisco Arts Commission as we celebrate Susan's vibrant life and art with a book launch on February 10, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the SFAC Main Gallery at the War Memorial Veterans Building. The book's publication coincides with two concurrent programs presented by the San Francisco Arts Commission: an Art on Market Street Poster Series featuring eighteen images from the Advice series and Do More of What You Love, an exhibition organized by the SFAC Galleries.
This event is part of a series of public programs connected to our inaugural exhibition: Bring It Home: (Re)Locating Cultural Legacy Through the Body (January 22 - May 7, 2016), Susan O'Malley: Do More Of What You Love (January 22 - May 7, 2016), and ENTER: 126 - Coalescence (January 22 - December 17, 2016).
