ART IN STOREFRONTS PILOT PROGRAM KICKS OFF IN CENTRAL MARKET AND THE TENDERLOIN
WHAT: Central Market and the Tenderloin will come alive for the launch of the highly-anticipated Art in Storefronts pilot program, which kicks off with eleven original window installations and two large-scale murals by San Francisco artists. A free community celebration featuring live bands will begin with an unveiling ceremony at 989 Market Street (at 6th Street) followed by a reception next door (979 Market Street) where the public can pick up a map to the newly-transformed storefronts. The public will also have the opportunity to meet the artists who will be stationed at their installations giving impromptu art talks throughout the evening.
*Interviews with participating artists can be scheduled on October 23 upon request.
WHO: The Art in Storefronts pilot program was Initiated by Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC), in partnership with neighborhood-based economic development organizations and curated by Triple Base.
WHEN: Friday, October 23, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Storefronts located along Market Street between 5th and 8th Streets and North of Market along Taylor Street. Opening ceremony and reception at 989 Market Street at 6th Street.
