The Street, a poster series on Market Street
by Margaret Crane | Jon Winet

The Street, a series of art posters by the artist team of Margaret Crane | Jon Winet, will feature photographs depicting discrete interactions in the life of pedestrians on San Francisco’s Market Street. The series will be on view in kiosks on Market Street between Van Ness Avenue and the Embarcadero from Monday, November 17, 2003, to Thursday, February 12, 2004.

On view for pedestrians 24 hours a day, The Street will combine staged photographs of individuals posing on Market Street with contact information about various San Francisco social agencies, including the San Francisco League of Women Voters, Pets are Wonderful Support, and Oasis for Girls.

The Street is a project of the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Art on Market Street Program, which sponsors both a year-round poster series and temporary performances and events by Bay Area artists.

The artist team of Margaret Crane | Jon Winet, has worked since the mid-1980’s on multi-media projects combining imagery and text that comment on current political and social issues. Most recently, they have been working on Capital, a two-year multimedia project exploring images of power and government in Washington, D.C. and Hollywood, and Monument, a website project in Newcastle, England. Their work has been exhibited in San Francisco at the Paule Anglim Gallery and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, among other places. They also participated in Xerox PARC’s Artist In Residence Program.
