ART ON MARKET STREET KIOSK POSTER SERIES
Urban Ornith-choreography, an exhibition of posters with people and pigeons on Market Street, by artist Gabrielle Drinard.
Urban Ornith-choreography, a series of artworks depicting the complex dance between people and pigeons on Market Street, will be on view on Market Street from Monday, May 17, to Thursday, August 12, 2004. The posters will be installed in the glass panels on the pedestrian side of the triangular kiosks on Market Street between Van Ness Avenue and the Embarcadero.
Artist Gabrielle Drinard created the original images by drawing on black scratchboard with additional painted areas. The drawings depict two groups of living creatures--humans and pigeons—enacting their daily routines on Market Street independently of one another, yet there is a relationship between them. Pigeons search for sources of food while trying to avoid the ebb and flow of human life around them, developing a choreography in response to the patterns of pedestrians’ movements.
Gabrielle Drinard recently graduated from the California College of the Arts. Her artwork has been exhibited most recently at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery in City Hall, Southern Exposure Gallery, and New Langton Arts, all in San Francisco.

San Francisco Arts Commission’s Art on Market Street Program
sponsoring both a year-round poster series and temporary performances
and events by Bay Area artists.
