EXHIBITION OF FOUR ARTIST SEMIFINALISTS FOR THE NEW POTRERO BRANCH LIBRARY
***OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT***
at the Potrero Branch Library, located at 1616 20th Street
Saturday, March 4th through Saturday, March 18, 2006
The exhibition will be on display in the Potrero Branch during regular branch hours: Tuesdays from 10 AM to 8 PM; Wednesdays from Noon to 8 PM; Thursdays from 10 AM to 6 PM; Fridays and Saturdays from 1 PM to 6 PM, closed Sundays and Mondays.
Forms for written public comment will be available at the exhibition.
As part of the Branch Library Improvement Art Enrichment Program, the Potrero Branch Community Artist Selection Panel has selected four semifinalists, one of whom will be selected to create artwork for the new Potrero Branch Library. The artist semifinalists include Seyed Alavi, mixed media; Terri Hoff, wall reliefs; Gina Telcocci, sculpture; and Faye Zhang, tapestries.
Each semifinalist has prepared a presentation board with documentation of past artwork and a brief description of preliminary art concepts for the new Potrero Branch Library. These boards will be on view at the existing Potrero Branch Library for written public comment.
Completed public comment forms will be forwarded to the Potrero Branch Community Artist Selection Panel prior to their next meeting in the Spring. At this next meeting, the panel will select the final artist for the new Potrero Branch Library. The artist recommended by the panel must be approved by the Arts Commission and reviewed by the Public Library Commission. The final artist selected will work with the Arts Commission, the Public Library, the new branch architect and community members to complete his or her artwork design and integrate it into the new Potrero Branch Library.
The Potrero Branch Community Artist Selection Panel includes three elected community representatives: Mark Gettys, Margaret Frings Keys, and Peter Linenthal. Jensa Woo, the Potrero Branch Manager; Paul De Freitas, Bureau of Architecture; Larry Rinder, Arts Commissioner; and Regina Almaguer, arts consultant; also serve on this panel.
