Status of Third Street Light Rail Central Subway Qualified Artist Pool and 2005-2007 Artist Pool
The artist selection process has been completed for both the pre-qualified Third Street Light Rail Central Subway Artist Pool and the 2005-2007 Artist Pool. As a total of over 800 applications were submitted for both pools, far more than anticipated, the artist selection process for both Artist Pools took far longer than expected. The Arts Commission thanks all the applicants for their patience and interest in our public art projects.
The Third Street Light Rail Central Subway Artist Pool includes thirty national and local artists and artist teams working in a wide variety of media. These artists are now eligible for consideration for public art commissions at the four Central Subway stations. The Arts Commission will present artists' application materials from the Central Subway Artist Pool to independent artist selection panels convened for each station, as they occur. The timeline for the Central Subway, including the artist selection schedule for each station, is expected to be determined by mid-2006.
The Central Subway Artist Pool includes: Vito Acconci; Katherine Aoki; Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt; Jim Campbell and Werner Klotz; James Carpenter; Carl Cheng; Sheila Levant de Bretteville and Glen Cummings; Michele Oka Doner; Janet Echelman; Elwood LLC; Ming Fay; Ann Gardner; Keith Godard; Mags Harries and Lajos Heder; Ralph Helmick and Stuart Schechter; Mildred Howard and John Winder; Christopher Janney; Donald Lipski; Laurie Lundquist; Mike Mandel; Don Merkt; Christian Moeller; Anna Valentina Murch; Tom Otterness; Jody Pinto; Xavier Roux; Susan Schwartzenberg and Michael Davis; Buster Simpson; Po Shu Wang; and Janet Zweig.

These artists are eligible for consideration for all public art projects initiated through 2007, including at the airport, in parks, recreation centers, and libraries, and for all other San Francisco City and County public works projects that qualify for art enrichment.
