Art on Market Street Application Guidelines

COVERS BOTH KIOSK POSTER SERIES and TEMPORARY PROJECTS

The Art on Market Street Program has changed. Please read the new guidelines and application procedures below.

The Art on Market Street Program is discontinuing its annual competition. However, artists are invited to submit documentation of past artwork for consideration for future Art on Market Street projects, both for the Kiosk Poster Series and The Temporary Projects, on an ongoing basis. The Arts Commission welcomes artist’s application materials as one of many sources for future consideration. See new application requirements below.

Artist’s materials will be reviewed by the Arts Commission as they are received. Artists’ materials will be returned following review. Please allow sufficient time for review and return of your materials. The Arts Commission requests that applicants do not call for the status of the review of their materials.

Artist should not submit specific proposals with their application materials.

Project Overview

The Art on Market Street Program is currently developing a new curatorial scope and artist selection process. The Program will expand its focus beyond references to the history, ecology and cultures of Market Street, to address broader themes such as travel and urban systems, among other possibilities. The Poster Series will continue to be exhibited in the triangular kiosks on Market Street between Van Ness and the Embarcadero, and the Temporary Projects will also continue to take place on or near Market Street.

The Art on Market Street Program intends to develop projects that may foster a relationship between a poster series and a temporary project, or may include related printed material, among other interdisciplinary approaches. Projects may also involve collaborations with other Bay Area organizations.

The Art on Market Street Program is discontinuing its annual project selection competition. Instead, the Arts Commission will develop new projects for both the Poster Series and the Temporary Projects on an ongoing basis, drawing upon many resources in the Bay Area.

The Arts Commission welcomes artists’ application materials as one of many sources for future consideration.
