Four different light sculptures mounted on polished granite columns. Works combine historic streetlight forms with contemporary materials and futuristic forms.

 

Spine

Ellis O’Farrell Parking Garage, Ellis and O’Farrell Streets
The pedestrian walk and stairway are lit by a 275-foot sculptural light fixture that forms a linear spine from one end of the building to the other.

Three abstract human figures painted in primary red, blue, and yellow are cut out of sheet steel. With outstretched arms and raised legs intertwining, they appear to be dancing.

 

Spider Pelt

3rd Street between Howard and Folsom
The automobile as prey. A 1971 red Fiat Spider cut into flat sections, coated with zinc chromate and repainted with acrylic lacquer, hung on the wall as a trophy.

 

Oracle

4th and Mission Streets
Carved, lighted-glass panels designed by the artist form the balustrades on five floors of the 7-story stair tower. Surfaces contain geometric patterns merging into free-flowing lines and sparkling points of light.

Hand-carved sculpture scaling the main lobby staircase, made from a single redwood tree harvested in Northern California.

The mural & various elements are based on early maps of San Francisco, incorporating displays of archeological artifacts unearthed during construction of the site.

 
Sea Change

70-foot tall, 10-ton, elegant and kinetic sculpture that serves as a gateway to the refurbished South Waterfront.
 

Promenade Ribbon Project (also in DISTRICT 3)

Embarcadero; Northpoint to Townsend St. (Pier 38)
A 2-mile long, 5-foot wide linear sculpture consisting of concrete, glass block, and fiber optic lighting integrated into the design of bayside pedestrian promenade; a symbol of the juncture between city and bay, commemorating the historic seawall and water beneath the sidewalk.

A series of 22 13' high metal black-and-white-striped pylons and multiple bronze plaques spanning 2.5 miles, imprinted with photographs, stories, poetry and drawings commemorating the waterfront’s historical significance.
