Request for Proposals – Laguna Honda Hospital Mural Conservation
Laguna Honda Hospital is a licensed acute-care hospital operated by the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Public Health. The Professions was painted for the hospital lobby in 1934 by Glenn Wessels under the auspices of the WPA. The Professions depicts several figures displaying attributes of various occupations and activities. They are pictured in an idealized landscape, sheltered by an enormous pair of hands emanating from the sky. Due to the painting’s current condition it has been removed from the hospital and is in storage. The painted surface of the artwork requires cleaning and repair, and its plywood secondary support also needs repair or replacement. The contract shall have an original term of one year. In addition, the City shall have an option to extend the term for a period of 2 years, which the City may exercise in its sole, absolute discretion.
