Vandalism Abatement Projects
With over 1,000 artworks permanently sited in public spaces, vandalism of the Civic Art Collection is a constant concern of the San Francisco Arts Commission. The willful defacement or destruction of San Francisco’s public artwork diverts funds and staff time desperately needed for the care of the collection, and exhausts our ability to keep up with regular maintenance. Restoring vandalized artwork requires the efforts of trained conservators who are familiar with the creator’s chosen materials and aesthetic intent. These incidents cost the Arts Commission thousands of dollars every year.
This page serves as a log of recent vandalism abatement projects completed by the Arts Commission.
