New Art on Market Street Poster Series by artist Nancy Mizuno Elliott

“May I Take Your Order,” by Nancy Mizuno Elliott
May I Take Your Order?, a series of posters by artist Nancy Mizuno Elliott featuring employees of fast food restaurants on Market Street, will be displayed in 24 kiosks on Market Street between Van Ness and the Embarcadero from Monday, August 18, through Thursday, November 13, 2003. These drawings, based on photographs taken by the artist of the employees working behind the counters at their restaurants, offer a glimpse into the inner lives of these often overlooked workers. The white chalk line drawings on chalkboards include a personal phrase about each employee.
Nancy Mizuno Elliott, who lives in Oakland, has completed residencies at the Ragdale Foundation in 2001 and 2002, and has exhibited her work recently at the San Francisco City College Art Gallery, Culture Cache and Pond, all in San Francisco, as well as the Dead Horse Gallery in Cleveland, the Florida International University Art Gallery in Miami, and the Community College Southern Nevada Art Gallery in Las Vegas.
May I Take Your Order? is a project of the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series 2003.
