Renowned Artist Maya Lin to Debut Final Public Memorial at the California Academy of Sciences

Press Preview on Thursday, September 17 at 9:00 a.m.

Memorial is dedicated to raising awareness around biodiversity and habitat loss.

WHAT: World-renowned artist Maya Lin will debut her last public memorial at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Entitled What is Missing?, the permanent site-specific sculpture is the international debut of the first component of a multi-sited, multimedia artwork dedicated to raising awareness about the current crisis surrounding biodiversity and habitat loss. The dedication of the sculpture, which was commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission, coincides with the Academy’s one-year anniversary in its new facility designed by Renzo Piano. The Academy is the only institution in the world to house two permanent sculptures—an artwork and a memorial—by Lin.
