Calm Awareness with 3.9 Art Collective
A guided meditation workshop
Join Three Point Nine Art Collective for an opportunity to slow down and approach awareness and seek calm during our contemporary moment as we are dealing with anxiety, stress, uncertainty, worry, change, loss, trauma, and pain. In this meditation workshop, participants will be introduced to Calm Awareness (passive relaxed concentration) and will be given the basic tools for starting their own mindfulness practice.

The Three Point Nine Art Collective is an association of African American artists, curators, and art writers who live in San Francisco and who came together to draw attention to the city's dwindling Black population. They bear witness to this phenomenon and seek to reverse it by drawing attention to the historical and ongoing presence of Black artists in the city and creative expression in its Black communities.
Their current exhibition Black Magic focuses on individual methods of protection and self-care—strategies formed during the COVID-19 pandemic and prior to it—all summoned to survive in an anti-Black world. Collective members expressed and performed actions based on words that are central to their lives: Mediation. Ritual. Run. Strength. In the videos, the artists offer observations and personal narratives, practice contemplation, speak their intentions and play with fictions. The 3.9 Art Collective states: “By working collectively and valuing our individuality, we are dismantling the ideas of monolithic experiences within our culture, and creating radical images of ourselves that are nuanced, reflective and poetic.”
