Program Description

Since 1964, California Poets in the Schools (CPITS) has become one of the largest writers-in-the-schools programs in the nation. We serve students K-12 in over 31 California counties, stretching from Humboldt and Siskiyou to Inyo, Mono, and San Diego, in districts both urban and rural. Each year, CPITS reaches thousands of classrooms, teaching in public and private schools, juvenile halls, after-school programs, hospitals, and other community settings.

Program Description

I have ten years' experience initiating and coordinating youth music projects and musical-cultural exchange worldwide. I specialize in classical music, El Sistema music education, and the traditional musics of Ireland and Mexico. I am interested in both teaching music and languages, and in organizing/coordinating music projects in communities. I hope to be able to use my extensive international network to arrange cultural musical exchanges between foreign and Bay Area music groups.

Program Description

The Chinese Culture Foundation provides activities in history and art through our Him Mark Lai Learning Center. Year-round, we host school and community groups by appointment on our Chinatown Democracy Walk and Chinatown Art Walk. We also host classes at the Center throughout the year (by appointment and pending funding for certain programs), as well as music and culture workshops at school locations. Through our various programs, we engage youth in mural making, music, and art workshops.

Program Description

The mission of Community Music Center is to make high quality music accessible to all people, regardless of their financial means. Classes are offered on a sliding scale and some are completely tuition-free. CMC students range in age from a few months to nearly 100 years old, and they enjoy classes in everything from Western classical to Chinese to Latin Music. Last year over 2,400 students of all ages studied at CMC and thousands attended CMC performances.

Program Description

The San Francisco Symphony presents the 2013-2014 Concerts for Kids series, a program designed especially to introduce and acquaint students with the glorious sounds of symphonic music. Program Description

Flyaway offers GIRLFLY, a summer program for low-income teen girls, and KIDFLY, offered in schools and afterschool programs. KIDFLY offers low income, culturally diverse youth new awareness of the physical body, and mentorship in advocacy projects focused on social justice awareness. GIRFLY combines dance and activism, focusing on issues affecting young women. Flyaway works with community partners QUESADA Gardens and College Track in the Bayview neighborhood, and CounterPULSE in the Tenderloin.
