Program Description

For over 30 years, Music in Schools Today (MUST) has provided a safety net for Bay Area music programs. MUST supports existing music programs and provides a program for at-risk children pre-K-12, as well as professional development to teachers and teaching artists. In April 2015 The Paul Dresher Ensemble presents educational performances of the new musical Max Understood. This professionally acted musical invites audiences to experience the life of a boy with autism as he leaves his family's apartment and ventures out into the world on his own. Through spoken word, emotionally compelling music, and song, Max Understood will entertain young people 12 and up while fostering greater awareness and understanding of autism.

Program Description

Poetry Inside Out fosters imagination and builds problem-solving, critical-thinking, and literacy skills through the translation and composition of poetry. PIO has transformed thousands of students’ lives since 2000 and has helped them become lifelong learners, thinkers, and writers. Working in small collaborative groups, students progress from learning literary translation skills to studying poetic structure, form, and figurative language; and by revising, editing, and performing original work.
